Measles is highly infectious and can be passed on even before a rash appears.

The Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccination is the safest and most effective way to protect against these diseases. You need two doses of MMR to be fully protected.

For anyone aged 12 months to 25 years who hasn’t had one or both doses, catch-up vaccination is available.

The Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccination is the safest and most effective way to protect against these diseases. You need two doses of MMR to be fully protected.

If you think you or your child have measles, seek urgent medical advice before going to a healthcare setting.

This will help to stop the virus spreading.

In the first instance contact your GP practice or GP Out of Hours service. Alternatively, contact your local Phone First service for urgent advice.

If unsure use the Belfast Trust children’s symptom checker to guide you on the best course of action for your child bit.ly/49xHgz7

Vaccines during pregnancy

pic

The PHA is reminding pregnant women to get the whooping cough (pertussis) vaccine between 16 and 32 weeks of their pregnancy. The majority of children who are reported as having whooping cough are infants under six months of age so are too young to be protected by their routine childhood immunisations which are given at two, three, and four months of age. They can however be protected by their mother receiving the vaccination during pregnancy.

For further information on the vaccinations offered in pregnancy, please check pha.site/vaccinesforpregnantwomen
