Give it a go and swim for £1

People living in the Southern Trust area will be able to make a splash this March with leisure centres offering swimming for just £1.

To support the Public Health Agency’s (PHA) ‘Give it a Go!’ initiative, which encourages people to lead healthier lifestyles, the public can pay just £1 to swim in leisure centres in Armagh, Craigavon, Banbridge and Newry and Mourne from 10-30 March.

Gerry Bleakney, Head of Health and Social Wellbeing Improvement with the PHA in the southern area, said: “Being physically active can play a key role in achieving better health and wellbeing, and there’s no better way to get fit than getting in the water to swim.

“The £1 swim scheme aims to make swimming more accessible to everyone interested in trying it out for the first time or those that have not been swimming for a long time.

“We must thank the leisure centres and local councils for the valuable partnership forged with PHA to facilitate this fantastic project, which we hope will lead to a lot more people getting active.”

Anyone can swim for £1 during public bathing hours, times for which can be found by contacting local leisure centres.
